ACROSS THE WALL

"Thou wall, O wall, ... Show me thy chink, to blink through with mine eye!"

Incarceration creates a painful wall between those living on the inside, and those living on the outside.

Through OHOM’s new project, ACROSS THE WALL, film audiences in community settings and inside correctional facilities are sharing reflections about the film, and/or the effect of the wall on their lived experiences.

“I play the Wall, which is pretty cool for me, being six foot eleven. Wall is a gateway for two people to communicate and express their love, heart, and desire. I’ve been the gateway to some people’s happiness, to some people’s sadness.”

Actors perform A Midsummer Night's Dream. A man playing "Wall" holds out his hand to make hole for men playing Pyramus and Thisbe to speak through

Reflections from each side of the wall appear below.

"[When you're on the inside,] communication with the public is stilted and difficult to achieve. We need to talk about the isolation. What Shakespeare called the 'vile' wall is REAL!"

“Fertility is one of the film’s themes. Life flourishes all around the prison even as the [incarcerated men] are unable to see the horizon from inside. It is also about reconciliation. The play's characters fight and reconcile, just like people do in real life.”
